Summary | 08404: wndrmomo: Eight-way input not supported
Description | Wonder Momo is listed as a 4-way joystick game and currently behaves as such in MAME- you cannot turn while crouching as trying to do so makes Momo stand up and turn, which makes sense for a joystick setup like thiu. However, the attract mode briefly shows the computer-controlled player crouching then turning without standing up (slowed-down GIF attached to demonstrate this- just before the demo player fires the Wonder Hoop they crouch facing the screen, then turn while still crouched). The recent Arcade Archives rerelease also has this behaviour and lets the player turn and crouch. It seems this was the intended behaviour but doesn't work correctly in MAME as of right now.
Steps To Reproduce | In-game, hold Down to crouch then try and press Left or Right to turn, you will instead stand up and then turn. In the gane's demo and other emulated versions, you can turn while crouching which seems to be the intended behaviour.
Additional Information | Although I am unable to find off-screen footage of the game's attract mode to confirm the demo does crouch and turn, I have been asking around and even Japanese arcade game fans are divided on whether the game was a 4-way or 8-way game on release.
