Summary | 08168: qbert: [possible] Occasional graphics anomaly at lower left of playfield
Description | The "misplaced graphic element" first reported by M.A.S.H. in MT02105 that was fixed in 0.127 occurs in 0.239. I see the glitch in 0.180 as well.
Steps To Reproduce | It pops up briefly during attract mode and gameplay at the lower left of the playfield. It usually happens soon after Q*bert jumps on a spinning disk after being chased by Coily.
Additional Information | Notes in the driver mention that for horizontal games, the image on the monitor had to be stretched so that the column was not visible. Maybe the same applies here?

I can only see it as happening during the one of the demonstration loops and not during gameplay did I note it. I'd like proof this doesn't happen on original PCB - since it is on the edge of the screen it may have never been noticed in the wild due to bezels covering things up. As far as I can tell, even back to the original report, this is happening during the demonstration. |

Yeah this is definitely well outside what would have been considered the 'safe' area of the display, and glitches that close to the edge of the screen are commonplace. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen on the PCB |

That all makes sense. I should have checked 0.127 first. The glitch is there too, so I'm curious what was "fixed". The screenshot I included is during gameplay on the first board just after Q*bert rode the disk on the right to the top. |

A check of 0.126u4 shows that when you boot without any demonstration interaction, there is a chunk of graphic above that which you reported and happens back then as well, but is lower on the screen than the one reported here. The change that fixed the original view report was exposed after a gottlieb driver rewrite a short time earlier. One could argue that both are original behavior and only a good PCB output capture can tell for sure. I'll acknowledge as possible - pending investigations |
