Summary | 07823: nbanfl, nbagold: Watchdog reset after selecting "NFL Main Menu" or "NBA Main Menu" in their respective test menus.
Description | Both games have two separate test menus. If you enter one test menu and then switch to the other (either by selecting "NBA/NFL Main Menu" or exiting to a different game and entering test from that different game), the game will watchdog reset. This has always happened even before the game was marked as working (and for some reason doesn't happen on actual hardware).
Steps To Reproduce | Enter test menu and select "NFL Main Menu" (or "NBA Main Menu" for nbanfl DIP 1, Switch 8 is set to on).
Additional Information |
There are multiple ways to reproduce this (as mentioned). In nbagold, NFL's test menu has to be accessed differently due to a bug on actual hardware where the game always boots into NBA Showtime rendering DIP 1, Switch 8 useless for this set only. Simply coin up and select NFL Blitz as the game and after Blitz is done loading, it's safe to enter its test menu. I fear the reason for this bug happening may come down to complex CPU related issues. |

Isn't this simply a case where the game selection dip is being honored as priority as it is supposedly a hardware switch (as opposed to a test mode software change)? This sounds like expected behavior to me. |

The game select dip determines what game the system boots into on startup. I've been told from a Blitz/Showtime owner that switching test menus between both games works as intended and doesn't reset the system. It also sucks I do have an Blitz/Showtime cab at an local arcade but with a non-working pcb sent for repairs. I hope the owner can email the repair person the status so we can get the cab fully working. A video reference would be nice. |

This is a known issue with the MIPS3 DRC and is related to commit https://github.com/mamedev/mame/commit/7016f2a641fad989b55cb867f0610ea8923c0b00 . There is no reasonable solution available yet. |
