Well I tested this with mame versions from 194 to 197 all of them have this bug. then i tested from 150 to 169 this started on mame 164 if you look at the images i posted you can see a black bar at the very beginning of the game and a white part of something on the presentation screen on which the girls photos appear i have a felling this may be related to ''TMNT 1989 Konami Problem'' because is the same bug and both games are from that era http://mametesters.org/view.php?id=4790 |

"i have a felling this may be related to ''TMNT 1989 Konami Problem'" Right, it's common across a lot of hardware, MAME emulates what the PCB outputs, which includes the 'overscan' areas, which aren't visible on monitors that don't show the entire frame. This is the reason games etc. have 'safe areas' because old screens (and even some recent ones) don't show a certain portion of the image so developers have to be careful not to draw essential graphics in those areas, however that doesn't mean the data doesn't exist / isn't being output by the board, hence why a monitor showing the full image will also display them. The overscan area is entirely dependent on the monitor used, some allow the screen size to be adjusted within certain limits, operators were expected to adjust things to suit if they could, or just live with missing graphics if their monitor cut off too much and didn't allow for adjustment. NeoGeo is another good example of this, the majority of the games are programmed around an assumption that the video display is 304x224, however it's been verified across many PCBs and monitors that the true output resolution is 320x224 with garbage in the borders. that's why I'm pretty sure you'll find the PCB is outputting the same garbage / missing bg etc. here. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=20&v=yahniZfXkR0 Edges of this movie are very blurry but You can see that in upper left corner there is block that looks like in mame. The rest of trash is also visible but poor video quality masking this. I know it's not a proof because of video quality and the fact that we don't see those 8 lines all the time. |

I suspect that these BTANB reports are going to keep coming unless a "crop overscan" functionality gets added, somewhat like this: https://i.imgur.com/8zlyCBQ.png As of today, MAME crops the overscan in certain systems and leaves others uncropped, instead of always showing the full display that the hardware outputs. Personally, I think that it would be more accurate to display the overscan even for systems that just output a black frame around the picture like the SNES, unless the user wants the display cropped. Having this option at hand would make for a quick answer to all the "there's a glitch in the borders" reports. |

This is a recording from a japanese pcb of the game. ALL bugs are seen in the gameplay 0:06, stage select bug 0:14, level 1 left black bar bug 53:35, stage 7 bug (in that time it matches the snapshot provided in this ticket, but the issue starts before) 57:53, ending left bar bug This user has many "not mame" gameplays in his channel, and this gameplay doesn't have the famous slow music issue present in many konami games, including Crime Fighters ( https://mametesters.org/view.php?id=413 ) |
