Summary | 05775: nes [spelunkr]: Spelunker - Regular distortion of sounds bat makes
Description |
The sounds the bat makes under Spelunker becomes regularly distorted. It does not distort in such a way under real hardware or Nestopia. |
||||
Steps To Reproduce |
Start a new game. Take elevator shaft down to bat area. Listen to regular distortion of bat sounds. |
||||
Additional Information | MESS flags known video problems, but no mention of known sound problems; presumption is this is ok to report.

The bat sound frequency or pitch does seem to change depending on the way you move up or down the elevator. The behavior is different using Nestopia, but I can't test on real hardware right now. I'll attach a Snapshot to show exactly where this can be tested. Will set to Acknowledge pending input from others. |

It doesn't only change depending on the way you move up or down the elevator. In the video I attached with the initial report post, you'll also noticed it changes with your character standing still right in the same area, just below and to the left of it. There is no other action - no movement from your character or otherwise (besides the bat 'droppings') and the sounds distorts. |

While Nestopia is a good reference, I wouldn't trust anything but a real console at this point. While I own a NES, I do not own this game so I cannot test it. It may very well be as you say, Trebor, but we need the figurative "COA" from a video showing from console to have the positive reference. |

Fortunately, I own that game (Have so since the late 80's) as well as the NES PowerPak. Spelunker was the first game I ever purchased for the NES. I guarantee you the bat noise/sounds does not behave the way it does under MESS, rather is reflected properly under Nestopia. Regardless, I will get a video up from the 'real deal' as soon as I can. |

It is just for reference, mind you. Thanks. I have traced back in regression as far as I could (mess 0.70) and it has always sounded this way in MESS where the pitch keeps changing and I'm quite sure it is a problem with the sound core somewhere. |

Completely understood and not a problem. I appreciate the regression testing, thank you. |

Real hardware video added along with a corresponding MESS 0.155 clip around the same duration. |
