Summary MESS-specific 05745: nimbus [welcome]: The mouse pointer is moving erratically.
Description If the mouse does not move very slowly, the mouse pointer will begin moving erratically.
Steps To Reproduce mess nimbus -flop1 welcome

Wait until load into MAIN MENU and from there start the CANVAS application: F10 Games and Applications / F6 Run the CANVAS application

If try to move the mouse very very slowly, the mouse pointer will follow the mouse movement,

but if try now to move the mouse a little faster, the mouse pointer will start to move erratically. (see on attached picture)

It's always been like that (AFAICT) and I gave up trying to make sense of it. It looks that it's supposed to be connected to the IO mcu but someone who knows more about and maybe has access to the machine will have to provide more information.

We just don't know how the mouse talks to the I/O MCU. It could use some funky setup using flip-flops like the Apple II mouse card for all we know. At any rate, the current hookup is pretty much guaranteed to be wrong, and it's noted in the source that it doesn't work.

Please stop posting irrelevant links. There are no schematics there, you have not provided any information we don't already know. The mouse sends quadrature signals (not analog signals) to the PC in the same way as, for example, a Mac Plus or Apple II mouse. We have no idea what kind of logic is between that and the I/O MCU. If you can't provide a schematic for it, you are not helping.
