Summary | 04244: starwars and clones: Tie fighter 'roar' sound broken
Description | When the TIE fighters swoop past in Star Wars I no longer hear their usual sound but an 'broken' type of sound.
Steps To Reproduce | Just play the game - when the Tie fighters appear and fly past you'll hear an ugly noise instead of their usual sound.
Additional Information | Lord Nightmare instructed me to raise this as an official issue: "However, can you file a bug report for it on mametesters? It should be assigned to me, if you can do that."

<LordNUniv> current blocker on the star wars speech/tie fighter bug in mame is me not being able to get PES running in mess <LordNUniv> PES is a test bed machine using an 8031 to play with a tms5220 or 5220c <LordNUniv> which i use for data logging with a logic analyzer <LordNUniv> however i need it to run in both emulation and real life to compare traces <LordNUniv> and emulation is being problematic; I can't get the 8051 serial ports working <LordNUniv> i must be doing something wrong |

Compared to the original pcb, this issue seems to be solved. Original hardware video here. In minute 6:00 the tie fighter sound can be heard several times, and it sounds the same as in current MAME. More original hardware here. Perfect tie-fighter sound in 6:38, 6:43... This is how current mame is doing that sound: |

After Metalgod's posts, I'm going to call this a BTANB and say that MAME is currently correct to hardware, but unless we can match the tms5220 bit-for-bit in emulation compared to running the data through a real tms5220 with a logic analyzer tied to the debug-digital output pin, I can't claim that it is 100% accurate. So just leaving the possibility of re-opening this in the future. Marking as resolved for now. |

It is likely, if it was fixed at all, that this was truly fixed in the commit 12d07f91741615bb811e122ffc15ce8cf39f6266 since there were some random speech glitches in various games before that commit. |
