Summary 03189: mach3: sprite / LD positioning seems to be incorrect
Description The sprite markers used by the game seem to be positioned about 16 pixels too far left, or the video is being displayed too far to the right.

The range of movement for the player seems to be correct, so it seems most likely that the LD video is misaligned.

Unfortunately, I do not have this CHD to test. Please, can anyone else out there confirm/deny this?

It is hard to say for sure. According to the test screens, it looks like things may be misaligned. However, I cannot tell based on the gameplay.

The overlay can be repositioned with the slider controls. If someone wants to adjust the overlay position to line things up and can confirm via playthrough that the game plays successfully that way, then I will happily update things. Post the results here if you figure it out.

I uploaded two photos of the real hardware, with the monitor's horizontal centering adjustment skewed left instead of centered -- so you can see the graphics actually extend past the right edge of the laserdisc video by about 10-12 pixels or so (and the leftmost graphics are cut off in that shot because of that)... which is a little weird, but there it is, if it helps. I have a few more photos if you need 'em.

Thanks bit0mike, excellent screenshots :)
I added one taken by MAME for comparison.

possible sprite priority problem in the mame screenshot too; the tip of the bomber plane on the right is under the color bars, not over.

h-stretch and v-stretch .986, h-pos/v-pos 0.062 and -0.026 seem to get it within about 95% of my photos, weird as it seems.

Attaching some more pictures as mach3align.zip. The two I attached before were with the game's monitor H-position adjusted far left. These pictures are with it set normally, so, more accurate :)

Three attract mode pics, two graphics tests, one genlock test, one audio checksum test.

That's what I used to come up with the .986 stretch and .0062/-0.026 position figures. It seems weird to me that it would clip that much off the left of the LD video, but, that seems to really be the case.

Unfortunately I don't have the hardware needed to get a completely unclipped copy of the real game's output.
