When playing Kid Niki on real hardware it is possible to see the shape of his hair when in the darkness during the title sequence, i have not been able to get the same effect with Mame... see pic. Updated in 0.116u4: kidniki0104u3gre is fixed. Stefan Lindberg says: But now the sprites(kid-niki) look way too dark during gameplay? |

Perhaps this is a quirk of the circuitry that combines the background and sprites? The SNES has a very similar "problem" in that you can still see faint outlines of certain layers and sprites when you set the screen brightness to zero. I imagine you'd have to implement some form of analog monitor simulation in order to reproduce this behavior. |
