Summary 01085: NES-based games.: Wrong colors.
Description Wrong colors.

Zaphod Updated: The duck hunt nes cpu is the same one as the playchoice 10 one, amd both of these can be used to RGB-mod a real NES.

So all VS games that use the same palette as pc-10 driver (duck Hunt and some others) can be pronounced accurate.

Games that use alternate plaettes need testing with real boards, and probably analysation of the signals to check that misconfigured monitor settings aren't to blame for the discrepancies.

Added other shots.
According to a technical site, the VSNES system outputs inverted RGB signals for negative signal monitors, and we have to use a polarity reversal circuit to get correct color display on a normal CRT. The only exception is VS. Tennis. It outputs normal signals.
I guess the handling of the special signals may not be perfect in MAME.

well, red seems off in both, but in different ways...

Heh, IIRC, palleting has always been a big issue with NES emulation... nobody ever seems to get it quite right and nobody ever seems to be happy with anything they come up with... though in this case it's definitely pretty far off, especially the VS Super Mario Bros one.

Fujix, the inverted signals are not special. They are only inverted for use with the crappy sanyo monitors mounted on nintendo cabinets.
The colours are just inverted so that for example 0 is maximum intensity. It's only a different standard but the principle is the same of the positive RGB.
with a simple circuit you can reverse again the negative rgb colours

On Mario pcb you don't need to invert the signals because there is a jumper on the board to use the inverted colours stored on the PROM

All nintendo pcbs have inverted colours, even the early ones.
